As of 2025, there is currently an estimated 75 to 199 million tonnes of plastic and waste in our oceans. This number is set to increase if action is not taken, with 33 billion pounds of plastic entering the oceans every year. This shocking statistic leads many to believe that by 2050, the total amount of plastic in our oceans and waterways will outweigh all the fish in the sea.

NYLON 
 

Nylon is essentially plastic derived from crude oil and is commonly used to make lots of products.

• It produces nitrous oxide—a greenhouse gas that, it’s suggested, is 300 times worse than carbon dioxide.

• It’s a very thirsty process—large amounts of water are used for cooling the fibres, which can then be a source of environmental contamination and pollution.

• It’s also an energy-intensive process, which contributes to environmental degradation and global warming.

 ALL OUR LEOTARDS ARE MADE WITH RECYCLED NYLON 

 

Normally, nylon has a significantly detrimental environmental impact, but the creators of Econyl seek to help reduce the effects of this fabric on the environment by using recycled base materials.

Regeneration System—a groundbreaking innovation that transforms waste into high-performing nylon without relying on fossil fuels. Discarded fishing nets, old carpets, and fabric scraps that would otherwise pollute the planet are collected worldwide and regenerated into ECONYL® nylon, delivering the same quality and same performance as standard nylon ​

HOW IS ECONYL (recycled nylon) MADE?

Nylon 6 waste is collected from all over the world and sent to the ECONYL® waste treatment centre in Ajdovščina, Slovenia where the different types of waste are cleaned and sorted to recover as much of the nylon as possible.

2. The waste undergoes a regeneration and purification process, resulting in a recycled nylon of exactly the same quality as virgin nylon.

3. The ECONYL® regenerated nylon is then transformed into new high performance textile yarns, which we then use in our leotards. ​​​

Note we use a type of ECONYL which is referred to as life recycle, the composition of material contents can be viewed on all of our labels and product descriptions.
